Description

A simple and comforting homemade sandwich bread recipe that fills your kitchen with warmth and nostalgia.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the sugar in warm water in a bowl. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm spot for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough to remove excess air, shape into a loaf, and transfer to a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow it to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a crustier loaf, add steam to the oven while baking. Brush melted butter on top for a softer crust.
