Description

A classic homemade bread recipe that creates warm, fluffy loaves perfect for sharing at family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water (110°F)
  • 1 cup of milk (110°F)
  • 2/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
  • 5-1/2 cups of bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, and sugar. Stir well to dissolve.
  2. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the liquid. Allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Once the yeast is active, mix in the salt and vegetable oil.
  4. Gradually add the bread flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into loaves. Place the loaves into greased bread pans.
  8. Allow the loaves to rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the loaves for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the pans and brush the tops with melted butter for a soft crust.

Notes

For best results, ensure the yeast is active before mixing and keep the dough in a warm area while it rises.
