Description

Delightful Sourdough Hawaiian Rolls infused with sweetness and tang, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter (fed and bubbly)
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (not-from-concentrate)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for brushing)
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, pineapple juice, whole milk, honey, melted butter, and salt. Stir to mix thoroughly.
  2. Gradually add the all-purpose flour while mixing until a sticky, shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let the dough ferment at room temperature for 8 hours or overnight until it rises and becomes puffy.
  4. The next morning, lightly flour your work surface and place the dough on top.
  5. Divide the dough into 18 equal pieces, shape each into a round roll, and place them in a buttered 9×13 baking dish.
  6. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise in a warm spot until they double in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Once the rolls have risen, bake them for 30 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.

Notes

Keep your sourdough starter healthy for best results. Experiment with different honey types for varied flavors.
