Delightful doughnuts made with sourdough discard, perfect for creating memories and enjoying warm, golden treats.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending until well combined.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
- Once cooked, remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- Mix together the sugar and cinnamon for coating.
- While still warm, coat the doughnuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Notes
Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying. Make small test batches to refine frying technique.
