Description

Delightful doughnuts made with sourdough discard, perfect for creating memories and enjoying warm, golden treats.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending until well combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Once cooked, remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  7. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon for coating.
  8. While still warm, coat the doughnuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Notes

Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying. Make small test batches to refine frying technique.
