Delightful and crunchy sourdough cheese crackers that combine the tang of sourdough with cheddar cheese, perfect for gatherings or movie nights.
Ingredients
- 230 grams (1 cup) sourdough starter (active or discard)
- 3 tablespoons melted butter or oil
- 120 grams (1 cup) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, melted butter, flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until it forms a shaggy dough.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently until cohesive and smooth.
- Divide the dough into two pieces. Optionally, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
- Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper to a thickness of 1/16 of an inch.
- Cut into squares or desired shapes, prick with a fork, and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until crispy and lightly golden. Allow to cool on the tray before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing in herbs like rosemary or thyme, or adjusting the cayenne for your heat preference.
