Description

Delightful soft sourdough dinner rolls that are easy to make from scratch, bringing comfort and joy to your meals.

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 240 grams whole milk
  • 200 grams active sourdough starter
  • 1 egg
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 13 grams salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • Kosher salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Melt 5 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat, then remove from heat and stir in the milk until well combined.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the starter, egg, and sugar. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour in the butter mixture and mix thoroughly.
  4. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until no dry flour remains.
  5. Switch to a dough hook and knead on low speed for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  6. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise until doubled in size (12-14 hours).
  7. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and turn out the dough onto a floured surface. Divide into 15 pieces and shape into rolls.
  8. Arrange rolls in the baking dish and let rise until puffed (1.5 to 3 hours).
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with kosher salt.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better results. Patience in rising time is key for fluffy rolls.
