Description
Juicy smash burgers with a crispy crust, perfect for backyard gatherings and delicious flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion (optional)
- ¼ cup avocado oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 8 slices of American cheese (optional)
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- ¼ cup barbecue sauce
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sriracha
Instructions
- Preheat the griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and sriracha to create the burger sauce.
- Form the ground beef into four equal balls, weighing about 4 oz each.
- Pour avocado oil on the griddle or skillet, ensuring it coats the surface.
- Place the beef balls onto the hot cooking surface, and immediately smash them down using a spatula, aiming for a diameter of about 5 inches; season generously with salt and pepper.
- Cook without disturbing for about 2-3 minutes or until a crust forms on the bottom.
- Flip the burgers, adding a slice of American cheese on top of each; cook for another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
- While burgers cook, optionally sauté the chopped yellow onion until caramelized.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading the burger sauce on the buns; add a juicy patty, onions, and your choice of additional toppings.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
Ensure the cooking surface is hot enough for that perfect crust. Season generously and flip burgers only once for best results.
