Description
Irresistibly chewy pretzel bites made from scratch, perfect for gatherings or movie nights.
Ingredients
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled; plus more if needed)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ¾ cups warm milk (or water; around 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 9 cups water
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 large egg (mixed with 1 tablespoon of water)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, yeast, milk, butter, and salt in a stand mixer bowl.
- Mix with a dough hook on medium speed for about 4-5 minutes until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Bring the water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
- Divide the dough into 12 pieces and roll each into a ¾-inch rope, cutting into 1-2 inch bites.
- Drop the bites into boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer to the prepared baking sheets.
- Brush with the egg wash and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Store cooled pretzel bites in an airtight container for up to two days or freeze for up to three months.
