Juicy and tender deer steaks slow baked with a rich gravy for a mouthwatering meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs deer steak
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 onion, chopped
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 cups milk
Instructions
- Pat the steaks dry with paper towels.
- Pound the steaks with a meat mallet to halve their thickness.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Roll each steak in flour and fry until browned, about 1 minute on each side.
- Place the steaks in a 3-quart casserole dish.
- In the same frying pan, add butter and sauté the onions until soft.
- Stir in garlic, salt, pepper, and additional flour.
- Gradually add milk, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens.
- Pour the gravy over the steaks in the casserole.
- Cover the casserole dish and bake at 300°F for 150 minutes.
Notes
Avoid overcrowding the pan when frying the steaks, and consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for enhanced flavor.
