Description

Juicy and tender deer steaks slow baked with a rich gravy for a mouthwatering meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs deer steak
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Pat the steaks dry with paper towels.
  2. Pound the steaks with a meat mallet to halve their thickness.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Roll each steak in flour and fry until browned, about 1 minute on each side.
  5. Place the steaks in a 3-quart casserole dish.
  6. In the same frying pan, add butter and sauté the onions until soft.
  7. Stir in garlic, salt, pepper, and additional flour.
  8. Gradually add milk, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens.
  9. Pour the gravy over the steaks in the casserole.
  10. Cover the casserole dish and bake at 300°F for 150 minutes.

Notes

Avoid overcrowding the pan when frying the steaks, and consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for enhanced flavor.
