Delightful Mini French Breakfast Puffs that are easy to make and perfect for any gathering, combining sweetness and spice for a charming breakfast treat.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF and spray a 24-cavity mini muffin pan with flour-based baking spray.
- Whisk together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon to create the cinnamon sugar mix; set aside.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in another bowl.
- Beat the vegetable shortening and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
- Mix in the milk alternating with the dry mixture until just combined.
- Distribute the batter into the mini muffin cavities.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Roll the puffs in melted butter and coat with the cinnamon sugar mix before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, rolled in cinnamon sugar. Can be garnished with fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar.
