Description

A flavorful recipe for Mexican steak tacos made with tender sirloin and bold spices, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds sirloin, chopped into cubes
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ancho chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 8 corn tortillas (or any preferred type)
  • 1 tub sour cream
  • 1 pack cotija cheese
  • 1 jar store-bought guacamole
  • 1 jar store-bought salsa
  • 1 jar pickled red onions
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish
  • Hot sauce of your choice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the sirloin dry and chop into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Mix the spices, salt, and brown sugar in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Toss the sirloin cubes in a large bowl with vegetable oil and the spice rub until evenly coated.
  4. Let the marinated meat sit for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet for about 2 minutes.
  6. Sear the steak for 1-2 minutes per side or until browned, around 3-5 minutes total. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  7. Once cooked, pile the steak on warm tortillas and add guacamole, salsa, sour cream, pickled onions, and cotija cheese.
  8. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve with a variety of toppings for guests to customize their tacos. Experiment with spice levels to suit your taste.
