Description

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a spacious mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to combine without overworking.
  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared dish.
  4. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a meat thermometer registers 160°F (71°C).
  5. For the mushroom gravy, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, stirring for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream. Stir until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for a few minutes, slice, and serve with mushroom gravy over each portion.
