  • 2 cups (480 ml) broccoli florets (480 milliliters)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil (15 milliliters)
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) soy sauce (45 milliliters)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) brown sugar (28 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame oil (15 milliliters)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sliced green onions (24 grams)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cooked rice (370 grams)

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  3. Drain excess fat from the pan.
  4. Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the beef. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Add broccoli florets to the pan and stir to coat them in sauce.
  7. Cover the pan and let broccoli steam for 5-7 minutes, until tender.
  8. Remove the lid and stir in sliced green onions.
  9. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  10. Serve the beef and broccoli mixture over cooked rice.

Notes

  • For a healthier alternative, consider using ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
  • Enhance the flavor by marinating the beef in a mixture of soy sauce and garlic before cooking.
  • Add more vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for additional color and nutrients.
