Ingredients
- – 6 beef cheese sticks (150g) part skim low moisture cheese
- – 1 1/2 cups (180g) bread crumbs
- – 1/2 cup (50g) grated cheese
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Italian seasoning (optional)
- – 1 large egg
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water
Instructions
- Slice each beef cheese stick into two parts and set them aside. In a powerful blender or food processor, combine the bread crumbs, grated cheese, and Italian seasoning, and blend until the mixture is finely ground.
- Transfer the crumb mixture into a bowl. In another bowl, beat the egg and water together until well mixed.
- Working quickly, coat each cheese stick by dipping it into the egg mixture, then into the crumb mixture, and repeat the process once more. Arrange the coated cheese sticks on a plate lined with parchment paper. Freeze them for two hours.
- Pour 2-3 tablespoons of oil into a non-stick skillet and heat over medium flame. Once the oil is hot, take the cheese sticks out of the freezer and place them in the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes, then turn them over and cook for an additional 3 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove the cheese sticks from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with a paper towel. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Consider using whole wheat bread crumbs for added fiber and nutrients.
- Add garlic powder or paprika to the crumb mixture for extra flavor.
- Ensure the oil is sufficiently hot before frying to achieve a crispy exterior.
