Description

Delicious, homemade French fries that evoke the pleasure of childhood memories with a perfect crispy texture.

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Cold water (for soaking)
  • Vegetable oil for frying (canola, peanut, or sunflower)
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika or smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
  • Chopped fresh herbs (rosemary, parsley, thyme)

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into even-sized sticks about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Soak the cut potato sticks in cold water for 30 minutes to an hour to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain and pat the potatoes dry using kitchen towels.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 325°F (160°C). Fry the potatoes in batches for 3-5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  5. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C) and fry the blanched potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Drain again on paper towels, then sprinkle with sea salt, garlic powder, paprika, and grated parmesan while hot.
  8. Toss with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, consider double-dipping your fries in the oil. Serve immediately for the best experience.
