Description

A comforting and hearty casserole dish featuring ground beef, potatoes, and a blend of cheeses, perfect for busy evenings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the ground beef. Cook until it turns brown, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onion softens, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Layer the cooked beef mixture in the prepared baking dish. Arrange the sliced potatoes on top.
  5. Season the potato layer with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheeses over the top, then pour beef broth (or water) around the edges. Optionally drizzle with milk for added creaminess.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

Ensure potatoes are cut evenly for uniform cooking. Soaking slices in cold water can prevent browning before baking.
