Warm and comforting fluffy cinnamon rolls perfect for breakfast or an afternoon treat, infused with sweetness and spice.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup warm water
- 1 and â…› teaspoons dry active yeast
- ¼ cup warm milk
- 2 and ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 2 and ¼ to 2 and ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar (for filling)
- ¼ cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1 and ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, for filling)
- 2 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened for frosting)
- ¾ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a larger mixing bowl, whisk together the warm milk, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and egg. Stir in the yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes. Gradually add softened butter pieces while kneading.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
- Spread melted butter over the rolled-out dough and sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over it.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Cut into 8 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for about 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
Serve warm, topped with cream cheese frosting. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
