Description

A traditional Filipino sticky rice cake that’s sweet, sticky, and wrapped in banana leaves, perfect for celebrations or as an everyday snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups glutinous rice
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Banana leaves for wrapping

Instructions

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the rice and combine it with coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Cut banana leaves into rectangles for wrapping.
  4. Place a scoop of the rice mixture in the center of each banana leaf and fold it into a package, securing it with kitchen twine or toothpicks.
  5. Steam the wrapped rice cakes for about 30-45 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Let them cool before serving, and enjoy your Suman!

Notes

Embrace using fresh banana leaves for better flavor. Experiment with fillings like sweet fruits or nuts to enhance the dish.
