Description

A quick and comforting dish featuring tender ground beef, chewy noodles, and a harmonious blend of sweet and savory flavors.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225g) noodles (spaghetti, udon, or rice noodles)
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil the noodles according to package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pan, cooking until browned. Break it apart as it cooks and drain excess fat after browning.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, hoisin sauce, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Pour this mixture into the pan with the ground beef and stir well.
  7. Mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl, then add the slurry to the pan. Stir frequently and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
  8. Toss in the cooked noodles, ensuring they are well coated with the sauce.
  9. Before serving, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish.

Notes

For added richness, let the sauce simmer a bit longer after thickening. Adjust red pepper flakes to taste for desired heat.
