Description

Irresistibly fluffy cinnamon rolls made with sourdough discard, perfect for a delightful brunch or cozy treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for the filling)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough discard, milk, and melted butter. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, salt, and active dry yeast.
  3. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients; blend well.
  4. Start incorporating flour, one cup at a time, until fully combined. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread softened butter over the surface, followed by a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll the rectangle into a log, pinching the seam to seal. Cut into 12 even rolls.
  9. Arrange rolls in a greased baking pan. Cover and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow rolls to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, let ingredients reach room temperature before use. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for long-term storage.
