Description

A lighter spin on classic lasagna, filled with layers of creamy cottage and ricotta cheese, savory sausage, and rich marinara.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Cook the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions until al dente, then drain.
  3. Layer a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Lay three lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  5. Add half of the cottage cheese and half of the ricotta cheese on top of the noodles.
  6. Sprinkle a third of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the cheese mixture.
  7. Repeat the layering process with another layer of sauce, noodles, and cheeses.
  8. Place the last three lasagna noodles on top and cover with remaining marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  9. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  10. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese bubbles and turns golden brown.
  12. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to customize with sautéed vegetables or substitute ground sausage for lean turkey.
