Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil (15 milliliters)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces (411 g) / 411 grams)
- 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed (15 ounces (425 g) / 425 grams)
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) chili powder (15 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cumin (5 grams)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (115 grams)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped green onions (25 grams)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chili sauce (60 milliliters)
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1 minute.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- Stir in the chopped bell pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Pour in the can of diced tomatoes and their juice.
- Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans to the skillet.
- Stir in the chili powder and ground cumin.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and drizzle the crunchy chili sauce over the top.
- Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
