Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil (15 milliliters)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces (411 g) / 411 grams)
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed (15 ounces (425 g) / 425 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) chili powder (15 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cumin (5 grams)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (115 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped green onions (25 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chili sauce (60 milliliters)


Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1 minute.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  5. Stir in the chopped bell pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  6. Pour in the can of diced tomatoes and their juice.
  7. Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans to the skillet.
  8. Stir in the chili powder and ground cumin.
  9. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  10. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  12. Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  13. Remove from heat and drizzle the crunchy chili sauce over the top.
  14. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
