Description

A delightful blend of sweet cherry filling and creamy cheese tucked inside flaky pastry, perfect for cozy mornings and shared moments.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon ricotta cheese
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla extract)
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (1 box)
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 large egg (plus 1 tablespoon of water for the egg wash)
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and sugar using an electric mixer until smooth.
  3. Add the egg yolk, ricotta cheese, almond extract, pinch of salt, and lemon zest. Blend until combined and refrigerate.
  4. Roll out thawed puff pastry and cut into heart shapes. Place on the baking sheets and prick centers with a fork.
  5. Divide the cream cheese mixture among the pastry shapes and top with cherry pie filling.
  6. Brush the edges with egg wash and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Chill the assembled pastries for at least 15 minutes before baking for best results. You can experiment with other fruit fillings like raspberry or blueberry.
