Delightful bite-sized appetizers made with a rich cheese filling and topped with spicy hot pepper jelly.
Ingredients
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1/3 cup hot pepper jelly
- Fresh thyme leaves or chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully combined.
- Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and optional garlic powder; mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, keeping them 2 inches apart.
- Use your thumb to press a small indentation into the center of each ball.
- Fill each indentation with 1/2 teaspoon of hot pepper jelly.
- Bake for 13–15 minutes or until golden.
- Allow the appetizers to cool slightly before garnishing with fresh herbs.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Chilling the dough ensures the cookies maintain their shape during baking. Experiment with garnishes for unique flavors.
