A delightful breakfast casserole combining savory cheddar biscuits, fluffy eggs, and crispy turkey bacon.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 strips turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Add the cubed cold butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, then gradually add buttermilk, stirring gently until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and onion powder. Stir in the crumbled turkey bacon.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spoon dollops of the biscuit dough evenly across the bottom.
- Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit dough, allowing it to seep between the biscuits.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
Notes
Let the casserole cool slightly before serving for easier slicing. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
