Description

Cajun spiced chicken wings that are crispy, flavorful, and perfect for gatherings or family dinners. A delightful balance of spices and tenderness.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds split chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or vegan butter, or ghee for Paleo/Whole30)
  • ¼ cup Crystal’s hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
  • Freshly chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and adjust the rack to the upper-middle position. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top, spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and place them in a large bowl.
  3. Add baking powder, kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano, cayenne pepper, and thyme. Toss until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange seasoned wings in a single layer on the wire rack, skin side up. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Flip the wings and bake for another 20 minutes. Then flip back to skin side up and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until crispy and cooked through.
  6. While wings bake, melt butter in a saucepan, add Crystal’s hot sauce and coconut aminos, and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl, pour the sauce over them, and toss to coat. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra crispiness, you can broil the wings for a minute or two at the end. Adjust the cayenne pepper for desired heat level.
