Description

Transform your leftover sourdough starter into delightful cinnamon rolls that are soft, fluffy, and filled with buttery sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Icing (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir until smooth and uniformly mixed.
  2. Gradually add the flour, mixing until you achieve a soft dough. Adjust flour amount if necessary.
  3. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubles in size.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface.
  5. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Optionally fold in raisins or nuts.
  6. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into individual rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another hour.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Optional: Drizzle icing over the rolls before serving.

Notes

Ensure your sourdough starter is active for the best results. Don’t rush rising times; patience pays off with fluffy rolls.
