Description

Loaded baked beans bring warmth and flavor to gatherings, combining savory meats and sweet maple syrup for an irresistible dish.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz canned baked beans
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 pound bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large cast iron pan, seasoning it with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the diced onion, green bell pepper, smoked sausage, and diced bacon. Sauté until the vegetables soften and the bacon is crisp.
  3. Add the browned beef back into the pan along with the canned baked beans, maple syrup, light brown sugar, barbecue seasoning, and water. Stir to combine.
  4. Preheat your smoker to 225°F and place the cast iron pan inside. Cook for one hour.
  5. Increase the temperature to 350°F for an additional 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove from the smoker or oven, stir, and serve.

Notes

Consider letting vegetables sweat in their juices before adding other ingredients for enhanced sweetness. Experiment with different BBQ seasonings to personalize flavor.
