Description

Savory beef and cheese empanadas with a flaky crust, perfect for gatherings and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the ground beef and break it up while cooking. Once browned, stir in cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts and cut into 4-inch circles.
  7. Place a spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of each circle.
  8. Fold over the dough to form a half-moon shape and seal edges with a fork.
  9. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use a fork to seal the edges for a secure filling. Customize the spices to your preference.
