Savory beef and cheese empanadas with a flaky crust, perfect for gatherings and family dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the ground beef and break it up while cooking. Once browned, stir in cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Remove from heat and mix in shredded cheddar cheese.
- Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts and cut into 4-inch circles.
- Place a spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of each circle.
- Fold over the dough to form a half-moon shape and seal edges with a fork.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use a fork to seal the edges for a secure filling. Customize the spices to your preference.
