  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Smash the overripe bananas until smooth.
  3. Stir in the melted butter until well combined.
  4. Mix in the granulated sugar and brown sugar, stirring for a few minutes.
  5. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon in another bowl.
  7. Blend the dry ingredients into the banana mixture, stirring until just combined.
  8. Fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  10. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and drizzle over the batter.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

Using overripe bananas is crucial for maximizing flavor. You can also add nuts or dried fruit for added texture.
