Description

A delightful dessert that blends the nostalgic flavors of baklava into a warm cake, featuring layers of nuts, a honey glaze, and a buttery topping.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, walnuts)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) vanilla cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1-1 1/2 tbsp warm water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix the melted butter, chopped nuts, brown sugar, corn syrup, and cinnamon to prepare the baklava topping; set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, water, and sour cream. Stir until smooth.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Spread the baklava topping mixture evenly over the first layer of batter, then pour the remaining cake batter on top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. While baking, prepare the honey glaze by mixing honey, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and warm water until smooth.
  8. Once baked, allow the cake to cool slightly before drizzling with the honey glaze. Cool completely before serving.

Notes

Experiment with different nut combinations for the topping, such as adding orange zest to the glaze for added flavor.
