Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
  • 1 apple, grated
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (115 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) bread crumbs (30 grams)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder (5 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) salt (2.5 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper (2.5 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil (15 milliliters)
  • 1 head of lettuce, leaves separated
  • Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, avocado slices

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, grated apple, shredded cheddar cheese, and bread crumbs.
  2. Add the egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. Mix everything thoroughly using your hands until well combined.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Place the turkey patties in the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes per side.
  7. Ensure the patties are cooked through and register 165°F (74°C) internally.
  8. Remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes.
  9. Place a cooked turkey patty on a large lettuce leaf.
  10. Add optional toppings like sliced tomatoes, red onions, or avocado if desired.
  11. Wrap the lettuce around the patty to form a wrap.
  12. Repeat with remaining patties and lettuce leaves.
  13. Serve the lettuce wraps immediately.

Notes

  • Consider adding a tablespoon of ketchup or barbecue sauce to the patty mixture for a juicier result.
  • Experiment with gouda or pepper jack cheese for a unique flavor profile.
  • For a crispier texture, bake the patties in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes instead of pan-frying.
