Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb (225g) beef steak thinly sliced
  • 1/2 large red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 large green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 medium onion, julienned
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) apple juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp (8 ml) cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) baking soda
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetarian oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) black pepper
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) apple juice
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chicken stock or beef stock/vegetable stock

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, let the thinly sliced beef steak soak in the marinade mixture for 15 minutes.
  2. In another small bowl, stir together the sauce components.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the beef strips until they are done. Remove them from the pan and keep them aside.
  4. Sauté the onions and diced bell peppers for around 30 seconds. Make sure they are tender yet retain a bit of crunch. Avoid overcooking.
  5. Add the sauce to the pan. Let it bubble and thicken for about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened, return the cooked beef to the pan. Mix well.
  7. Serve the dish and savor it!

Notes

  • For a more tender beef, consider adding a pinch of baking soda to the marinade.
  • Enhance the flavors by sprinkling sesame seeds on top before serving.
  • Customize the vegetable mix with your favorite veggies like broccoli or mushrooms.
